Red Drawing / Re-Drawing

Three interventions on the foundational pieces of American landart: Heizer's Double Negative, Smithson's Spiral Jetty, and Holt's Sun Tunnels. Three-thousand meters of red paracord were used to ‘redraw’ specific dimensions of each earthwork. The chasm of DoubleNegative was temporarily reconnected. Spiral Jetty was extended to once again touch the Great Salt Lake. SunTunnels’ one point perspective was fractured into an a-perspectival kaleidoscope. [+]

The mythology of landart draws its power from the dwarfing scale of 'The West', its inherent references to geologic time, and the shock of the massive gesture in the remote void. The Red Drawings were an effort to reactivate the vision of each piece, while also questioning their underlying assumptions and legacy. Lands&Myths will be a 30 min. film that documents these interventions and posits a new landart for the Anthropocene. To be released in 2025.
