A site-specific installation for SFAC’s Grove Street Gallery, Untitled (This is a metaphor, No. 3), is the third installment of an ongoing series of works that reframe everyday objects in order to reveal distinct tensions that shape our identities, anxieties, and relationships.
Lucky, a 20 ft. inflatable ‘Air Dancer’ struggles against a seemingly immoveable, illuminated post. Nearby, a digital clock counts down, marking the time until Lucky breaks free from his shackles, or dies trying. Bent in half and flailing wildly, Lucky is simultaneously hilarious and pathetic in its Sisyphean attempts to become free.
